Gold recovered, plane seized in Chattogram

A total of 20 gold bars have been recovered from under the seat of a female passenger at the Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.
The price of the gold may be Tk two crore and 50 lakh.
The female passenger has been arrested in connection with the gold recovery incident, and the plane of Bangladesh Airlines plane has also been seized.
The gold bars were recovered from the flight arriving from Dubai on Thursday (December 26) afternoon.
Shah Amanat International Airport Public Relations Officer Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil said based on a secret tip-off, officials of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department conducted a raid on a Bangladesh Biman flight (BG 184) from Dubai. During the raid, 20 gold bars, which were cleverly hidden under the seat of a female passenger named Atia Samia, were recovered. The weight of the gold bars was 330 grams. In this incident, the female passenger was detained and the aircraft was also seized.
Assistant Director of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department Md. Billal Hossain said, “This woman works as a salesperson at a shop called ‘Ocean Gold and Diamond Jewelry’ in the United Arab Emirates. She also sells gold online in the country. She hails from Boalia police station area of Rajshahi. The value of the recovered gold is Tk 2.6 crore.”
