7 murders on ship: Victim’s father dies

Daud Molla, father of Sajibul Islam, a victim of the ship murder on the Meghna River in Chandpur, has died as he did not be able to bear the grief of the untimely death of his son.

Family sources said Daud Molla died at around 11:45 am on Thursday (December 26). The family is in grief after loss of two members. 

Daud Molla became sick after hearing the news of Sajibul’s death on Tuesday (December 24). 

Sajibul Islam worked in various positions on the ship for 5 years. He recently participated in an exam to get a promotion. He was waiting for the results of the exam. In the meantime, instead of sitting idle at home, he took a job as a greaser in the MV Al-Bakhera ship a couple of weeks ago. He was brutally murdered on that ship.

Sajibul Islam hailed from Palashbaria union of Mohammadpur upazila of Magura. He was buried at his village home on Tuesday midnight.

At around 3PM on Monday (December 23), five bodies were recovered from MV Al Bakhera, which was anchored on the Meghna River. Later, critically injured two died at Chandpur general hospital. 

Six of deceased were identified as MV Al Bakhera master Kibria, driver Salauddin, helmsman Aminul Munshi, greaser Sajibul Islam, crewmen Azizul Munshi and Majedul Islam.
