A Bangladeshi young man was killed after being shot allegedly by members of India’s Khasia community along Sylhet border.
The incident occurred around 7pm on Friday (December 27).
The victim was identified as Sobuj Mia, 22, son of Abul Hossain of Vitorgul village in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet.
Lieutenant Colonel Hafizur Rahman (PSC), commander of the 48th Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), confirmed the incident.
According to the BGB, Sobuj was shot by the Khasia people while he, along with several others, crossed the border illegally into India in the evening. He died on the spot. His companions then brought his body back to Bangladesh, and his family informed police and BGB about getting the body.
The BGB company commander lodged a formal protest during a flag meeting, demanding that the accused Indian citizen be brought to justice promptly.
