3 schoolboys drown in Jamalpur

Three school boys drowned in the Brahmaputra River in Jamalpur on Sunday noon (December 29).

The deceased were known as Afif, 15, son of Ahamidur Rahman, Rahi, 15, son of Ezad Mia, and Rawshan, 17, son of Raja Mia.

Family sources said the victims, along with a few others, went to bathe in the river near their homes around 2:30 pm. Unaware of the depth and unable to swim, they ventured into the water and drowned. Meanwhile, locals managed to rescue two people but three remained missing.

Later, fire service rescuers recovered the bodies after one-hour-long efforts.

Confirming the matter, Jamalpur fire service station leader Siddiqur Rahman said the rescue operation ended around 4:30 pm.
