Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said, “There is a civil war in Myanmar for a long time. After the latest capture of Maungdaw Township on December 8, the 271-kilometer area of the Bangladesh-Myanmar border is now under the control of the Arakan Army. Due to this, the sound of gunfire is heard across the border. We are maintaining regular contact with the Myanmar government and the Arakan Army to deal with this situation.”

He made the remark at a press conference after visiting the Teknaf border in Cox’s Bazar on Monday (December 30) afternoon.

The adviser said, “Manpower has been increased in various BOPs on the Bangladesh side of the Myanmar border, and members of other forces have also been increased. Patrolling and intelligence activities have been increased at important places, including the Naf River. BGB, Coast Guard, Ansar and other forces including the police are conducting round-the-clock surveillance on the border.”

He said, “BGB and other forces are performing their duty to ensure proper security at the border. We are ready for every situation to protect the country’s sovereignty and maintain border security. No Rohingya or Myanmar citizen will be allowed to enter this country illegally”.

BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui along with senior officials of the Coast Guard, police and other forces were present during the inspection.
