2-month ban on crab netting in Sundarbans

A two-month ban has been imposed on crab fishing in the Sundarbans from today (January 1).
Forest Department imposed the ban to coincide with the breeding season.
The ban will remain in place until 28 February, during which the Forest Department will not issue any permits for crab harvesting.
No one will be allowed to sell crab, preserve and transport during the ban.
Mihir Kumar Doe, Forest Conservator of Khulna region of the Forest Department, said the crab species of the Sundarbans is not only economically important, it also plays a role in protecting the food chain of the Sundarbans.
