Ferry service resumes on Paturia-Daulatdia route after 11.5 hrs

Ferry services have resumed on the country’s important Paturia-Daulatdia waterway after being suspended for nearly eleven and a half hours due to dense fog.

The services resumed on Sunday (January 5) at 11:40 am when the fog on the river cleared.

Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Aricha regional office, Nasir Chowdhury, confirmed the information.

Earlier, as the fog density increased in the Padma River basin on the Paturia-Daulatdia route at night, the beacon lights and marking points of the channel became unclear at around 12 am. As a result, two ferries got stuck at the middle of the river. The BIWTC authorities stopped ferry services to avoid accidents.

Later, when the fog density decreased slightly around 11:40 am on Sunday, the ferry services resumed.

Nasir Chowdhury said that ferry services resumed on the route from 11:40 am as the fog density decreased.

Ferries with vehicles on broad, which were waiting at ghat to cross the Padma River, started plying towards respective destination at 11:40 am, he said.
