Police officer hacked to death in Netrokona

A sub-inspector (SI) of police was hacked to death by miscreants in Durgapur upazila of Netrokona Thursday (January 9).

The deceased was known as Md Shafiqul Islam, 48, son of Rafiqul Islam, hailed from Noagaon village in Chandigar union. He was attached with Jamalpur police line’s radio division.

Personal enmity would be the reason behind the attack of Shafiqul Islam, said police.

Durgapur police station Officer-in-Charge Bachchu Mia said, Shafiqul left home to go shopping in the evening. On the way, several miscreants attacked him with locally-made weapons in the Ukilpara area of Durgapur Municipality, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to Upazila Health Complex.

Later he was shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where he died under treatment.

We sent police to the spot immediately after the incident and collected CCTV footage, OC added.
