A case has been filed against 124 people including former president Abdul Hamid, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed Putul for their alleged involvement in the attack and shooting during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Kishoreganj.

Confirming the news, Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station, said, “Legal action will be taken after launching an inquiry into the case.”

Earlier, Tohmul Islam, 27, of Kishoreganj Sadar filed the case with Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station yesterday afternoon.

Alongside the former president and prime minister, Awami League’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader and several AL leaders have been named as accused.

Since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year, approximately 50 political cases have been filed in the district, with 11 of these filed with the Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station, the OC said.

Around 4,000 named individuals and more than 10,000 unnamed persons have been made accused in the cases.

This is the first time Abdul Hamid has been named in such a case, listed as accused number three, following Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana.

According to the case statement, the accused first plotted and then ordered their subordinates to kill civilian protesters with lethal firearms, crude bombs and local sharp weapons.

On orders from the top accused individuals, a violent attack took place at Station Road, Kishoreganj on August 4, leaving the plaintiff and the witnesses of the case severely injured.

Tohmul, who identifies as a BNP worker, said that he was among those injured during the protest.
