BGB briefing: Sound grenade firing is violation of int’l law

Chapainawabganj-59 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria has said, “They (BSF) fired sound grenades to control the agitated people (mob), which is a violation of international law.”

The BGB commander made the allegation at a press briefing on Saturday (January 18).

He said, “They have explained this matter in details to the BGB Director General. Hopefully, this matter will be discussed at the highest level of the BGB and BSF.”

Tension has erupted on the Chouka border of Chapainawabganj over cutting mango trees entering the Bangladesh area.

Citizens of India and Bangladesh gathered near the border, shouting slogans and throwing bricks at each other.

The two forces held a flag meeting on Saturday afternoon where BSF expressed sorrow.

Additional numbers of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Border Security Force (BSF) have been deployed in the area.
