The protesting teachers of Ebtedayee madrasah are observing a sit-in programme at Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka for the tenth consecutive day to press home their demand of nationalising all Ebtedayee madrasahs registered with the Madrasah Board.
The sit-in programme commenced on Tuesday (January 28) morning.
The protesting teachers said they would announce a stricter programme if their demand is not met within 2:00 pm on Tuesday.
Ebtedayee madrasah teachers alleged that the same textbooks are being taught in primary schools. However, they do not receive the same salaries and allowances as primary school teachers. That’s why they have been forced to take to the streets to demand nationalization of their jobs.
The teachers were observing the sit-in programme a day after the police charged batons and used water cannons to disperse them from the street.
Recently, they began a sit-in protest in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka to realise their demands.
