Ship carrying cement raw materials sinks in Rupsha River

A cargo ship carrying fly ash (raw materials for making cement) capsized in the Rupsha River in Khulna.

The ship capsized on Thursday night. However, Coast Guard public relations officer Lt. Commander Md Sium-ul-Haque confirmed the matter on Friday noon (January 31).

He said that the lighter ship MV Seven Circle-23 was heading to Rupsha from Herbaria with 1,175 tons of the raw materials. At around 2 am, it hit a pillar of the railway bridge on the Rupsha River and sank. The ship was damaged approximately 2 feet below the water level. Later, it capsized.

The 13 crew members of the ship were unhurt. The rescue operation is underway, he added.
