Arakan Army abducts 4 fishermen in Teknaf

Myanmar’s armed group, the Arakan Army, has abducted four Bangladeshi fishermen including their fishing boat from the Naf River in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

The incident took place around 11:00 am on Tuesday (February 11) in the Golarchar Mukh area near Shahparir Dwip in the upazila.  

The abducted fishermen were identified as boatmen Md Hasan, 30, Abdur Rakim, 20, Md Jaber 26, and Md Hasan, 16, all residents of Dakshinpara, Shahparir Dwip.

Bashir Ahmed, President of Dakshin Naughat on Shahparir Dwip, said, “The four fishermen went for fishing in the Naf River in the morning and later the Arakan Army abducted them at gun point. The matter has been reported to BGB and the local administration.”  

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Ehsan Uddin said, “I have received information about the abduction of the four fishermen. Law enforcement agencies are working to rescue them.”
