Shaheed Minar vandalized in Cumilla 

Miscreants have vandalized the Shaheed Minar of a college in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla.

They vandalized two of the three pillars of the Shaheed Minar located on the campus of Gunabati Degree College in the upazila at around 2:00 am.

Police and administration officials visited the spot on Friday (February 21) morning.

According to college sources, on the occasion of Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day, at 12:01 am, first the teachers and then the local BNP leaders and activists paid their respects by placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar. Everyone left the campus at around 12:30 am. At around 2 am, the college’s night guard went to the Shaheed Minar after hearing a loud sound. He saw that two of the three pillars of the Shaheed Minar had been broken by miscreants.

On Friday afternoon, Gunabati Degree College Principal Abdul Latif said, “We left after placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar. The miscreants did this late at night. The police went to the spot. I cannot say who did the incident.”

Officer-in-Charge of Chauddagram Thana Hilal Uddin said, “After receiving the news, the police went to the spot and started an investigation. As there were no CCTV cameras, it is not possible to identify the miscreants. It is suspected that some local people may be involved in this act.”
