Robbery on moving bus, case filed 

A case has finally been filed with the Mirzapur police station in Tangail in connection with the robbery on a moving bus along the Dhaka-Rajshahi route.

On Friday (February 21) morning, bus passenger Omar Ali, son of Mozahar Ali of Chashbaraigram in Baraigram upazila of Natore, filed the case with the Mirzapur police station against 8 to 9 unidentified members of a gang of robbers.

Earlier, they failed to file a case with Baraigram and Mirzapur police stations.

Robbers took away money and belongings from all the passengers. Two female passengers were also faced sexual harassment. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirzapur police station Mosharraf Hossain confirmed this information.

Passengers recount a terrifying robbery on a moving bus along the Dhaka-Rajshahi route, where criminals looted valuables and assaulted travellers earlier this week.

According to the case statement, a bus of Unique Road Royals (registration number: Mymensingh-B-11-0069) left Gabtali in Dhaka for Baraigram of Natore at around 11: 30pm on Monday (February 17).

At that time, there were 30 to 35 passengers in the bus. Later, around 12 midnight, it reached Hemayetpur bus stand took 10 to 12 more passengers. When the bus reached Chandra Bypass under Kaliakair police station in Gazipur district, it stopped for a tea break. During the 10 to 15 minute tea break, the bus took three to four more new passengers. At around 1:30 am, the bus crossed the Kharajora flyover bridge adjacent to Hi-Tech City Park under Kaliakair police station in Gazipur district.

After 5 to 6 minutes, 8 to 9 robbers who were passengers in the bus suddenly stood together. They threatened to kill everyone with sharp knives and asked everyone to be quiet.

At that time, three of the robbers started to beat the driver. One of the robbers took control of the bus and drove the bus towards Tangail.

The affected passengers said that when the robbed bus reached the Baraigram police station in Natore, two female passengers complained to the police about sexual harassment.

They wanted to file a case, but the police said that since the crime scene was in Mirzapur police station’s jurisdiction, the case must be filed there.

The robbers kept the bus moving around the area for three hours, looting cash, gold jewellery, and valuables from all the passengers. After completing the robbery, they left the bus.
