Husband-wife die from electrocution in Shariatpur

A man and his wife died after being electrocuted at Jajira upazila in Shariatpur on Saturday (February 22) morning.

The deceased were identified as Idris Khan, 65, and his wife Shefali Begum, 60, residents of Baliakandi area of the upazila.

According to police and locals, Idris Khan was recently cultivating maize in a field near his house. He installed an electric trap through a wire to protect the crop from wild animals, especially porcupines.

Idris Khan and his wife went there on Saturday morning without disconnecting the electric connection before entering the field. Idris Khan was first electrocuted and fell to the ground. While trying to protect her husband, Shefali Begum was also electrocuted and died on the spot.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma Bridge South Police Station Nakib Akram Hossain confirmed the information.
