2 robbers killed in mob beating in Shariatpur, 4 shot

Two robbers were killed in mob lynching during a robbery attempt at a bulkhead on the Kirtinasha River in Shariatpur. Four people were injured in the bullets fired by the robbers.

The incident took place around 11 pm on Friday (February 28) at Tetulia area in Domshar Union under Shariatpur Sadar Upazila on the Kirtinasha River.

According to local people, police and hospital sources, a group of robbers attempted to rob a bulkhead in Rajarchar area of Madaripur last night. Later, locals chased them. The robbers fled on a speedboat to Tentulia area of Shariatpur. There, locals obstructed their way with a bulkhead.

During this time, the robbers fired hand grenades and indiscriminately, leaving several people injured. Later, the local residents caught seven people while they were fleeing and beat them up. After giving them a good beating, they were handed them over to the police.

The injured were taken to Shariatpur Sadar hospital in critical condition where on duty doctors declared two of them dead.

Muntasir Khan, a physician at the Sadar Hospital, said, “Four people injured in the gunshots fired by the robbers were brought in the hospital. Two of them have been sent to Dhaka for better treatment. Seven robbers were brought in critical condition. Two of them have died. The rest have been referred to Dhaka for better treatment.”

Confirming the matter, Shariatpur Police Superintendent Nazrul Islam said legal action will be taken in this regard.
