In a tradition supposedly upheld since 1928, Muslims across 50 villages in Chandpur district initiated their Ramadan fasting on Saturday, aligning with the commencement of the holy month in Saudi Arabia.
Rasel Munshi, spokesperson of Hajiganj Sadra Darbar Sharif, on Saturday (March 1) morning said, “The villagers have been celebrating all religious festivals like Eid and Ramadan in accordance with Saudi Arabia for many years. This time is no exception.”
The residents of the villages offered their Taraweeh prayers last night and began their dawn-to-sunset fast after having ‘Sehri’ before sunrise, marking the beginning of the fasting period.
Following an official sighting of the new crescent moon Friday, Saudi Arabia announced that the kingdom would start the holy month of Ramadan Saturday.
