Iftar party at Rohingya camp: One dies in stampede

A person was killed on Friday in a stampede in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar. 

A crowd of Rohingya people rushed to join an Iftar party arranged on the occasion of a visit by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Two people were injured in the incident. 

The incident took place at around 2:30 pm in the helipad area of Rohingya Camp 20. 

The deceased was Neemat Ullah (50), son of the late Sabi Mia of Camp No. 4. 

The injured are Asmat Ullah (16) and Kalim Ullah (62). 

Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Arif Hossain said, “They fell from the mountain slope while rushing to join the iftar party and were trampled. They were rescued and taken to the hospital, the doctors declared Neemat Ullah dead. Two injured have been sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.”
