Ambulance-passenger van collision leaves 3 dead in Jashore

Three people, including woman and child, were killed and two others injured after an ambulance collided head on with an engine-run passenger van at Jhikargachha upazila in Jashore early Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Nazma Begum, 50, wife of Jeher Ali of Godkhali village; Bablu, 55, son of Jamal Sarder of Sayedpara village; and Ratna Khatun, 12, daughter of Hasan Iqbal of Bamon Ali village.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhikargachha Police Station Bablu Rahman Khan said, “An ambulance was heading towards Benapole from Jashore. When the vehicle reached Jashore-Benapole highway’s Nabinagar around 6am, it hit a passenger van, coming from opposite direction, leaving three dead on the scene and two others injured.”

The ambulance driver fled the scene soon after the accident. Fire Service members later recovered the bodies. Highway police also visited the spot. Legal steps are under process, the OC said.
