50 shops gutted in Khulna fire

At least 50 shops were gutted in a terrible fire that broke out in a market in Khulna city early Wednesday (March 19).

According to the eyewitnesses and victims, one shop caught fire suddenly after 5pm which quickly spread to neighbouring shops, engulfing a large portion of the market.

The gutted shops included that of cosmetics, clothes, crockeries and other products.

On information, ten firefighting units from various stations rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after about one hour of intense efforts.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulna Sadar Police Station (PS) Hawlader Sanwar Hossain Masum said they visited the scene after being informed about the fire.

At least 50 shops have been gutted in the massive fire, he said.

However, the exact reason behind the fire and the extent of the damage could not be ascertained immediately.
