Three factories of Alif Group in the Zarun area of Gazipur City Corporation have been closed indefinitely.
Workers of the factories started protest after discovering a closure notice at the gates of the factories on Thursday morning (March 20).
The factories are - Swadhin Garments, Swadhin Dyeing, and Swadhin Printing.
Police and workers said that the workers at Alif Group's Swadhin Garments Limited have been demanding Eid bonuses, vacation pay, and half of the current month's salary. However, the factory authority didn’t announce any decision regarding the demand. Later, around 800 workers started protest program.
According to the closure notice, all activities at the three factories have been suspended indefinitely under Section 13(1) of the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006.
The notice cited an unauthorized strike by workers from March 17 to 19, which reportedly caused significant financial losses and disrupted production.
