Fire Service did not work yet due to water crisis

A fire broke out in the Kalamteji Forest Patrol Outpost area of the Sundarbans in Bagerhat district on Saturday morning.

Being informed, members of four units of Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot but they did not start to douse the fire till 5:00pm due to water crisis as there is no river near the fire.

Meanwhile, forest department officials and employees have started cutting fire lines to prevent the fire from spreading. They have started trying to control the fire with their limited capabilities. 

According to locals and forest officials, smoke was first spotted in the Teparbil area in the morning.

Abtad-e-Alam, station officer of Sharankhola Fire Station and Civil Defence, said, “Teams from Sharankhola and Morrelganj have arrived in the spot”.

Kazi Mohammad Nurul Karim, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the East Sundarbans Forest Division, said, “We will be able to start the work of fire dousing from Sunday morning”.
