Tension on CU campus: Strike called, arms seized

Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: Tension has triggered on Chittagong University (CU) campus over clash between two groups of Chhatra League, student wing of the ruling Awami League.

A rival group called for strike at the campus since Tuesday morning.

The shuttle train communication has been snapped between the city and the university as rail tracks were cut off.

Amid the situation, police conducted drives at three residential halls--Shahjalal, Shah Amanat and Suhrawardi-- and seized two homemade LG, machetes, stones and a huge number of lethal weapons.

Belal Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hathazari Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said, "The two homemade LGs and lethal weapons were found abandoned the halls. Several students were also held for interrogation. They, however, were not shown arrested."

It may be mentioned that at least seven students were injured in chase and counter-chase in the campus since Monday.
