Ctg water-logging removal mega project starts Saturday

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: The mega project of the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) titled, 'Canal re-excavation, extension, renovation and development to solve water-logging in the port city is going to start on Saturday.
Bangladesh Army Engineering Corps will conduct the mega project of Tk 5,616.50 crore under an agreement with Chattogram Development Authority (CDA), said CDA Chairman Abdus Salam.
According to CDA, the Army will primarily clean and re-excavate 16 canals of the city to remove water-logging. Necessary steps are being taken so that no water-logging happens in the city in the upcoming rainy season.

The projects include; removal of about 5.28 lakh cubic metres of dirt and 4.20 lakh cubic metres of sludge from 36 canals, construction of 12 sluice gates and pump house on the estuary of six canals, construction of six culverts, procurement of necessary equipment, cleaning of 320km long existing drains, construction of retaining wall of 178 kilometres, construction of 48 girder bridges, re-excavation of all existing drains in 302 kilometre areas and installation of 880 electric poles.
Of the 36 canals, removing dirt and sludge of 16 canals will begin on Saturday spontaneously. The canals are Chaktai, Birza, Razakhali-1, Razakhali-2, Razakhali-3, Mirza, Moriombibi, Hizra, Mohesh, Kolabagicha, Dom, Bamunshahi, Chaktai Diversion (also known as Baklia Khal), Noa, Khondokia and Nasir.
