Anti-drug drives: 356 arrested in 8 days in Kishoreganj

Kishoreganj Correspondent: Some 356 people including drug peddlers, regular cases and warranted accused were arrested in anti-drug drives across the district in last eight days.

A huge amount of drug matterials was also seized during the period.

According to the district police media cell and the district collectorate, the anti-drug special drives started in 13 upazilas of the district since May 13, arresting 356 people including drug peddlers and regular cases and warranted accused. Members of police and Detective Branch (DB) are conducting the drives.

The arrestees were sentenced to different terms by the mobile courts of police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Abu Taher Md Sayed, Collectorate Executive Magistrate in Kishoreganj, said people who were arrested red-handed with drugs, drug addicted and drug peddlers were sentenced to 6 to 2 years’ imprisonment after they had given confessional statement.

Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kishoreganj, said anti-drug drives are being conducted across the country. The police administration has declared zero-tolerance policy against drugs. The drives will continue till the abolishment of drug addicted and peddlers.
