Anti-drug drives will continue: Quader

Feni Correspondent: Road Transport and Bridges Minister and general secretary of ruling Awami League (AL) Obaidul Quader said the drives will continue until the drug dealing comes to a tolerable level and general people are happy with it.

He said, “Until now no innocent people have been killed in gunfight and every killed person was a criminal.”

Attending a discussion programme as chief guest at Circuit House in Feni over traffic congestion on highways along with the representatives of 11 districts in Chattogram, Obaidul came up with the remarks on Sunday.

Legal steps will be taken if any innocent person falls victim of the anti-drug operation, he said.

“Drug dealers are enemies of the state, its ruining our young generation, spreading in localities, we have restricted its spread,” the minister said.

He also visited the construction work of overpass in Fatehpur in Feni on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.

The minister said the construction work on highways will be stopped for ten days before and after Eid-ul-Fitr to avoid gridlocks.

Besides operation of all goods laden trucks will be shut at least three days before and after the Eid.

From June 5, one lane of Fatehpur Railway overpass will be opened and from June 15 the entire overpass will be opened.

Earlier on May 15, and May 20 two lanes of Fatehpur railway overpass was opened to traffic aiming to ease traffic jam on the busiest highway of the country.

The construction work on the 86.79-metre long railway overpass, involving Tk 105.7 crore at Fatehpur, started in 2012 with the supervision of Shipu BPL Contractor Company. Later, Bangladesh Army got the task to finish it. The Army started their work in April last year.
