Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: Vote counting in the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls has begun as voting ended on in the afternoon with some allegations of irregularities at several polling centres.

Starting at 8:00am, the voting continued till 4:00pm without any break at 425 polling stations in 57 wards across the city corporation area.

The voting was suspended in 10 polling centres, including Khartoil Mansur Ali Adarsha School, West Joydebpur Madinatul Ulum Madrasah, Bhogra Government Primary School and Daffodil Kindergarten-2, due to violence and capturing of polling stations and giving fake votes, according Returning Officer Tareq Ahmed.

He said, “We a received a list of 10 centres where voting was suspended.

Meanwhile, bringing widespread allegations, including vote frauds and capturing of most polling stations, BNP mayoral candidate Hasan Uddin Sarker demanded the Election Commission (EC) to stop voting immediately.

He came up with the demand at a press conference at Gazipur BNP office around 1:30pm on Tuesday.

“They (AL men) captured over 100 centres since the morning after driving out my polling agents and established full control over all the polling stations by 1pm,” the BNP mayoral candidate said.
