Journo’s daughter allegedly dies from wrong treatment in Ctg

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: A two-and-a-half-year-old child allegedly died from wrong treatment at Max Hospital of the city’s Mehedibag area on Friday night, family alleged.

She was known as Rafia, daughter of Rubel Khan, Crime Reporter of Daily Samakal in Chattogram Bureau.

According to Rafia’s father Rubel Khan and journalist leaders, Rafia was rushed to Max Hospial and admitted there on Friday night as she was severely suffering from throat ache. She was undergoing treatment in the hospital under the attending doctor Debashish. But she died from wrong treatment after attending nurse gave her injection.

Though cops took up the accused physician and nurse to the police station after the incident, they were released on interference made by Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) leaders and the decision of Civil Surgeon over filing case after investigation by a probe committee.

Mohammad Abul Kamal, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakbazar Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said, “Though the accused physician and nurse were primarily released, legal steps must be taken after investigation.”

“The accused confessed that the child died from wrong treatment,” he added.

Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Azizur Rahman Siddique said the incident was obviously unfortunate. It is not acceptable that anyone will die due to wrong treatment of physicians.

A three-member probe body was formed to investigate into the matter immediately after the incident on Friday night. Legal steps must be taken after getting report, he added.
