‘Pathao’ driver arrested over rape attempt

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: Polive have arrested a driver who runs his private car under Pathao, an app-based transport service, in Chattogram city over rape attempt.

The driver was known as Mizanur Rahman, 33.

Police arrested him conducting a drive at the port police station of the city on Sunday morning.

The incident of rape attempt took place at toll road area under Pahartoli police station of the city on Tuesday morning last week, confirmed Sub-Inspector (SI) of the station Arnob Barua.

He said, “A young female physician, who lives in Bandartila area of the city, made call to Pathao private car service for a ride to her workplace Chattogram Medical College and Hospital. Mizanur took the girl on his private car for the hospital. But on the way to the hospital, he took the car at the remote of toll road and attempted to rape her. The girl, however, managed to come out of the car. At the same time, a motorcyclist rescued her.”

“The Pathao drive left the scene with his car immediate after the incident,” he added.

“The girl filed a complaint with Pahartoli Police Station. Later, police arrested him with the help of technology,” he said.
