‘Drug peddler’ killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

Kushtia Correspondent: A suspected drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in the district early Saturday.

The gunfight took place around 3.30am at Mollateghoria Kanelpara under Sadar upazila.
 
The deceased was identified as Habibur Rahman Hubba, 50, son of Siraj Malitha at Aruapara Chhoto Wireless area of the town.

Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station, said tipped off that a group of drug peddlers were holding a secret meeting in the area, a team of police launched a raid there around 3:30am.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them forcing them to retaliate, the OC claimed.


The gunfight left Habibur injured with bullets.
 
Later, the injured was taken to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
 
Police recovered 800 pieces of Yaba pill, one foreign pistol, two bullet shells and two magazines from the spot.

Four policemen were also injured in the gunfight.
