Rape accused killed in ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: A suspected rapist has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Chattogram.

The incident took place at Meherati village under Kusumpur union in Patiya upazila on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Arman Hossain, 25, an accused in a case filed for raping Class-VIII girl of Maliara village.

ASP Kazi Md. Tarek Aziz, Assistant Director of RAB- 7, said a team of the elite force conducted a drive at the village to arrest Arman. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, Arman and his accomplices fired gunshots at the Rab members forcing them to back fire that triggered a gunfight.  Arman found dead on the spot, , he said.

Later, RAB members recovered a firearm, seven bullets and nine empty cartridges from the spot.
