‘Drug trader’ killed in Chuadanga ‘gunfight’

Chuadanga Correspondent: A suspected drug peddler and accused in several cases has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in district’s Damurhuda upazila.

The gunfight took place on Thursday midnight at Kathaltala village of Joyrampur.
The deceased was identified as Rokon, son of   Abu Bakar Siddiqui at South Chandpur village of the upazila.

According to police, on a tip-off that a gang of drug peddlers were involved in illegal narcotics trade, a police team conducted a drive in the area. When the policemen reached there, the gang immediately began firing at the policemen, triggering a gunfight.

After the gunfight, police conducted a search operation in the area. The bullet-riddled body of Rokon was found at the scene. He was taken to Chuadanga Sadar hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

A locally-made LG, a sack of phensedyl bottles and two local weapons were also seized from the spot.

Officer-in-Charge of Damurhuda Thana Sukumar Biswas said Rokon was a listed drug peddler and accused in 10/12 cases.
