One killed in Narsingdi ‘gunfight’, 4 held

Narsingdi Correspondent: A listed ‘top terror’ was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with detectives at Tatapara of Madhabdi municipality area early Saturday.
Detectives also held four ‘criminals’ from the spot.
The deceased was identified as Awlad Hossain Mithun, 35, son of Jakir Hossain of the area.
Sub-Inspector of DB police Abdul Gaffar said Mithun and his associate Sohel were arrested from Kanchon area of Narayanganj on Friday noon. As per their confessional statement, a team of DB police raided the area for arms haul.
Mithun’s other associates opened fire when the DB team reached there, forcing them to fire back in self-defence that triggered the gunfight, he said.
Mithun sustained bullet wound during the gunfight and he was immediately taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he added.
Police arrested four associates of Mithun and recovered two foreign pistols and a pipe gun and eight bullets from the spot.
The police officer said Mithun was wanted in 12 cases including those of rape, murder and extortion.
