Drug suspect killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

A man accused in 13 cases related to drug has been killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Tarakanda upazila in Mymensingh district.

The 'gunfight' occurred on Thursday midnight in Mokamiakanda area of the upazila.

The man was identified as 45-year-old Abdul Karim, son of Akkas Ali at Nalkakra village of the upazila.

Mymensingh District Detective Police OC Shah Kamal Hossain Akanda said “We received reports that drug dealers had gathered in Mokamiakanda area to sell drug. As soon as a police team arrived at the scene, drug dealers fired upon them forcing them to fire back in self-defence.”

“Most of the other drug dealers fled, but Abdul Karim was found with bullet wounds. He was taken to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead”.

A pipe gun, one round of bullet and 200 gram heroin were recovered from the spot, he also said.
