Rohingya ‘drug peddler’ killed in ‘gunfight’

A suspected Rohingya drug peddler was killed in reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Marine Drive area of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Md Abdul Nasir, 28, son of Mohammad Jakir Hossain at Balukhali Rohingya camp. RAB  claims that he was a drug smuggler.

RAB commander ASP Shah Alam said on information, a team of RAB men directed 4/5 men to stop. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug smugglers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

The bullet-hit youth was found lying on the ground after the gunfight, he said, adding that he was taken to Teknaf Health Complex where duty doctors declared him dead.

RAB also recovered 66,915 Yaba tablets, two guns and five bullets from the spot, he said.

Three RAB men were injured in the gunfight, he added.
