Sohagi returns home 15 months after abduction

Lalmonirhat schoolgirl Sohagi Khatun finally returned home on Thursday, 15 months after she was abducted on her way home from school 2018.
Sohagi, however, could yet not return to her family.
It was learnt that Sohagi, class-VIII student of Paikartari village under Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat, was abducted on October 14, 2018 while she was returning home from school. She is daughter of Sahidul Islam of Sardubi village of the upazila.
Pradip, son of Girin of Fakirpara village of the area, and several of his associates abducted her and smuggled to India.
Later, family members found her near Payel Cinema Hall in Shiliguri of India on September 13, 2019. Since, she was under police custody there.
After a long process of bilateral dicussion, Sohagi was handed over to Bangladesh through Burimari land port in Lalmonirhat on Thursday evening.
She, however, could yet not return home as police will produce her before the court.
Local union parishad chairman Abu Hena Mostofa Jamal said an abduction case in this connection is under way in the court.
Burimari Land Port Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandokar Al Mahmud confirmed the news.
