2 arrested over gang raping RMG worker

A female garment worker was allegedly gang-raped by three young men, including her lover, at Narasinghapur in Ashulia of Savar on Monday night.

The victim filed a case against the trio in connection with the incident on Tuesday. Following the case, police arrested two of the suspects.

The arrested suspects are Rana Sarkar, 25, son of late Jalil Sarkar of Narasinghapur village and Arif Sarkar, 29, son of late Jamal Molla of the same area.

Samiul Islam Mridha alias Sohan, 22, remained absconding since the incident. He lives in a rented house at Narasinghapur of Ashulia.

According to the case statement, Samiul, also a garment worker, developed a love affair with the teenage girl from the same garment factory. He along with the girl went to visit the house of one his friends on Monday night.

On the way to return home, Samiul took the girl to his rented house where his friends Arif Sarkar and Rana Sarkar -- were already waiting.

Later, they raped the girl in turns and threatened her not to disclose the matter to anyone.

The rapists later let the girl to go and she went to the police station and filed the case against the trio.

Inspector (Investigation) Fazlul Haque of Ashulia Police Station said police on Tuesday arrested two accused -- Rana and Arif.

Police were trying to arrest Samiul, he said.

The victim was taken to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for medical test, the official added.
