One killed in Dinajpur ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Birampur in Dinajpur.

The gunfight took place early Tuesday in an orchard of Mirpur of the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Birampur Thana Md Moniruzzaman said acting on a tip-off that a gang of drug traders are staying there and a team of police conducted a drive. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminals opened fire forcing the policemen to fire back in self-defence that triggered a gunfight. Later, police recovered the bullet-hit body of a drug peddler from the spot.

Three policemen were injured in the gunfight, police claimed.

Police also recovered one pipe gun, three rounds of bullets, some local weapons and 100 bottles of phensedyl from the spot.
