Univ student killed by rivals in Jhenidah

A university student was killed after rivals hit him on the head by sticks over land dispute at Sheikhpara of Shailakupa upazila in Jhenidah on Tuesday.
He succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday midnight while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.
The deceased was identified as Arafat Hossain, 22, son of Jahangir Hossain of the village. He was a second-year student of honors (English) of Rabindra Maitree University in Kushtia.
Bazlur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shailakupa Police Station, confirmed the news.
He said Arafat and his father Jahangir went to a neighbouring land to their house purchased recently for fencing there on Tuesday noon. Abdur Razzak, son of late Rustom Ali Joardar, and Uzzal, son of Golam Joardar, opposed them over border dispute and locked into altercation. At one stage, they hit Arafat on the head with tree branches, leaving him critically injured. He was firstly whisked off Kushtia hospital. Later, he was referred to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.
Hearing the news, agitated locals made an attack and vandalised their houses. Cops were deployed there to keep the situation under control, the OC said.
