Drinking liquor: Death toll rises to 10

Four more people, who fell ill after drinking ‘toxic liquor’ at Birampur upazila of Dinajpur, died till Thursday morning, raising the death toll to 10.

Earlier, six people died after drinking toxic liquor till Wednesday noon.

Besides, at least 15 people are receiving treatment at different health centres and hospitals.

The deceased were identified as Shafikul Islam, his wife Monjuara, Abdul Matin, Abdul Alim and his brother Md Shahin, Azizul Islam, Mohsin Ali, Sohel Rana, Mono Mia and Amrito.

Birampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Touhidur Rahman confirmed the matter.

According to sources, at least 25 people drank the alcohol after purchasing it from a local homoeo pharmacy on Tuesday evening and fell sick.

Police filed a case against the homoeo pharmacy owner and some other unknown persons.
