Fishing in Sundarbans banned for 2 months

The forest department has banned fishing in all the canals of the Sundarbans from July 1 to August 30.
The step has been taken to help safe breeding and preservation of aquatic creatures in Sundarbans.
All kinds of entry pass and visiting permit have been declared shut. Earlier, the forest department took same measures to stop netting of fishes by spraying poison in the canals.
Mohammad Belayet Hossain, divisional forest officer (DFO) of Sundarban East Department, said according to the integrated resources management plans (IRMP), in 2019, forest department of Sundarbans signed a deal to save aquatic creatures. As part of it, Netting of fish has been banned in all the canals of the Sundarbans from July 1 to August 30.
Legal action will be taken if anyone violates the directions, he added.
