Housewife gang-raped in Kapasia, 7 arrested

Police on Friday (December 18) arrested seven people for gang-raping a housewife at Kapasia upazila of Gazipur.

The incident took place at chakkham area of Nabirtek village under Kapasia upazila of the district on Thursday (December 17) night.

Kapasia Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Afzal Hossain confirmed the matter.

The arrestees were known as Romon Bepari, 20, of Torgaon area of Kapasia upazila, Zobair, 21, Mostarin Sardar, 21, Mahbubul Hossain Shakib, 22, Masum Sheikh, 21, Rakib Hossain, 20 and Mahfuzul Haque, 20, of Boalertek of the same area.

Besides, key accused of Charkham area of Kapasia is on the run.

Inspector Afzal Hossain said, “The housewife who was gang-raped got married at Monohordi of Narsingdi. Her father’s house at Nabirtek area of Gazipur. She came her father’s home on December 16.”

He further said, “The woman had been continuing love affair on mobile phone with Shakhawat for last two or three months. Shakhawat called the woman with a promise of giving her a mobile phone on Thursday. At one stage, they went Nabirtek area. There, Shakhawat raped the woman. Others noticed the incident and caught the woman. Of them, Romon Bepari, Zobair and Mostarin raped her several times.”

According to police, they also took away her mobile phone after beating her up. They phone her mother and said that her daughter was caught while committing wrong doing and demanded Tk 50,000 to release her. They also gave a personal bKash number for the money. But the woman’s mother informed the matter to Kapasia Police Station. Later, police arrested them after conducting a drive.

A case has been filed with Kapasia Police Station in this connection.
