Saidpur municipality gets first female mayor

Awami League nominated candidate Rafika Akter Jahan Baby has been elected as the first female mayor of Nilphamari's Saidpur municipality.

Rafika Akter has secured the mayoral post in the party's ticket for the first time after establishing the municipality in 1958.    

The AL-backed candidate secured 28,278 votes while her nearest contestant BNP-backed candidate Rashidul Haque Sarker bagged 10,975 votes.

Returning Officer Fazlul Karim announced the election results at the conference room of Saidpur election office at 8:30pm on Sunday (February 28).
