Fire at Baghabari Milk Vita causes extensive damage

A fire broke out at Milk Vita’s milk powder processing plant -2 at Baghabari in Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj district.

The fire originated on the 4th floor of the powder plant at 8:30 pm on Saturday (January 15).

The authorities suspect that the blaze may cause significant damage to the plant.

The duty officer at Shahjadpur Fire Service, Rezaul Karim said, “The fire erupted due to a sudden electrical short circuit inside a milk powder making machine on the 4th floor of the powder plant on Saturday night.”

Baghabari naval fire service was informed as the firefighters at the plant initially failed to bring the blaze under control. Then, the naval fire service and two units of Shahjadpur fire service cut off the vents of the 4th floor and tried to extinguish the fire using water and foam. The firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control after around one and a half hours of their frantic efforts.

The duty officer said some powered milk inside the machine was burnt. Besides, the blaze caused several damages to machine.

However, the extent of damage could not be ascertained immediately.
