UP polls: Supporters of 2 candidates clash in Satkania

Elections in 16 union parishads (UP) under Satkania upazila of Chattogram are being held today (February 7).

However, voting at Gani Para Government Primary School center under the upazila remained suspended temporality due to a clash between the supporters of ruling Awami League (AL) Chairman candidate Akhtar Hossain and independent candidate Jashim Uddin.

The incident took place at 10 am at the polling center. Before the suspension of voting, a few gun shots were heard at the center.

Satkania upazila Election Officer Abu Taleb confirmed the matter.

Meanwhile, independent candidate Abu Taher alleged that agents were removed from various polling centers in Sonakania union of the upazila.

“The boat symbol is being sealed while agents are being pulled out of the voting centres. No one is being allowed to enter the polling centre”, he said complaining to duty police and election officials.

According to Satkania upazila Election officers, elections in 16 union parishads in the upazila are being held today. Among these, Awami League (AL) candidates were elected uncontested as union parishad chairmen in Purangarh, Keochia, Satkania Sadar and Madarsha Union.
