Flood situation worsens in Habiganj, academic activities being disturbed

Due to heavy rain and onrush of upstream water, flood situation has worsened in Habiganj. Floodwater has inundated many areas of the district’s Ajmiriganj upazila, rendering thousands of people marooned. 

Authorities of many educational institutions are going to declare closed their institutions due to floodwater.

Floodwater has entered many schools of Ajmiriganj upazila including Uttar Rasulpur and Kamalpur Charhati primary schools. Many roads of the upazila have been submerged by floodwater as a result students are not able to go to schools. Floodwater has also entered houses, creating chaos among the residents.

Headmaster of Kamalpur Charhati Govt Primary School Anup Kumar Chakrabarti said, “We are coming by boat. Some students are coming in the school who can swim.  Out of 250 students, half are regular”.

Headmaster of Uttar Rasulpur Govt Primary School Mamota Rani Debi said, “Roads connecting to our school have been submerged by floodwater as a result half of our students are regular”.

Ajmiriganj Upazila Education Officer Mahmudul Haq, “We are taking actions in this regard. We have already made a resolution at a meeting of Upazila Parishad”.
