A five-kilometer long queue of traffics has created at the Mawa end of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway due to traditional toll collection on the Padma Bridge. As the day progresses, pressure of traffics began to increase on the route on Friday (July 8), leading a long queue of different vehicles. As a result, the bridge authorities are struggling to cope with the extra traffic.
Abul Hossain, Executive Engineer of Padma Bridge who was on duty at Mawa end toll plaza, said, “It is taking a while to handle the pressure of extra vehicles on the occasion of Eid. However, the vehicles are crossing the bridge in a short time after paying the toll.”
He further said, “Traffic movement on Padma Bridge is normal. However, vehicles are to wait for a while to pay the toll due to traditional collection system that led a five-kilometer long traffic congestion from toll booth to Keutochira of Shreenagar. However, the vehicles did not get clogged in the traffic jam. They are moving slowly.”
Alamgir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma Bridge North Police Station, said, “Vehicles are moving slowly on three-kilometer from Padma toll booth of Mawa end to Service Area-1.
