7500 policemen to be deployed for Ijtema security: GMP Commissioner

Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Molla Nazrul Islam has said that 7500 policemen will be deployed for the overall security of the Bishwa Ijtema, an annual gathering of Muslims in Tongi set to be held the first phase from January 13 to January 2023. The second phase of the congregation will be held from January 20 to January 22.

He said this in reply to a query from journalists after the security coordination meeting of the Biswa Ijtema on Monday (December 26) noon. The meeting was held at Tongi Ijtema Maidan.

GMP Commissioner said the security system of the entire Ijtema Maidan will be monitored from Close Circuit (CC) cameras, watch towers and rooftops. Besides, a large number of officers of police and intelligence agencies in plain clothes will be on duty in every Khitta along with specialized teams.

Molla Nazrul Islam said, “Security measures will be taken in a more orderly manner this time than any other time. Even if there is a difference of opinion between the organizers of the two phases of Biswa Ijtema, there will be no chaos in organizing the congregation.”

Liberation War Affairs Minister A K M Mozammel Haque was present as the chief guest in the coordination meeting while State Minister of Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel was special guest.
