Production halted at 4 units of Kaptai power plant

Power generation is being severely hampered due to drastic fall in water level of Kaptai Lake, the largest man-made dam of the country, in Rangamati district.
Sources said the water level in Kaptai Lake has decreased drastically due to lack of rain in the current monsoon in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) frustrating the power generation process in Kaptai Hydraulic Power Station, having a capacity of generating 230 MW power.
There are a total of five units at the hydraulic power station. Of these, four units are now inoperative while the rest is operative. Four units remain closed due to unavailability of required supply of water and one unit is producing only 25 MW power now, said Engineer ATM Abdur Jaher, manager of Kaptai power plant, on Monday (May 1).
